The Atkinson - the new home for music in Southport

For many years, it was the Floral Hall that was the epicenter of music in Southport. From The Beatles, The Who and Pink Floyd in the 60's, Genesis, AC/DC, and Yusuf/Cat Stevens in the 70's, Elvis Costello and the Drifters in the 80's, on to Van Morrison, The Human League, and Dr Feelgood in the 90's and 2000's the Floral Hall was renowned for bringing some of the biggest names in music to the Sefton Coastline.
Sadly, the Floral Hall closed in 2020 and is due to be demolished in 2024. While it is set to be replaced by a £73 million state-of-the-art events and exhibition centre, for now at least, it is The Atkinson that is pride of place in Southport's musical story. Although they have not yet managed to book names quite as big as those that played the Floral Hall, they have hosted folk legends Fairport Convention and have regular tribute shows as well as performances from mid-level touring artists such as Newton Faulkner and Wishbone Ash.
